Throwing in the towel...

Okay guys, that's about as many rounds of tag that Mica is playing; I'm putting her on probation for the next five posts.
Now back to our scheduled programming :)

Yet another tag

i know: that I'm a sinner
i want: to live a useful life
i have: a wonderful family and a great church
i wish: I could somehow communicate feelings better
i hate: sin
i miss: my friends who live far away
i fear: roaches, wasps, sharks, deep-end swimming pools
i feel: deeply, but don't usually show it
i hear: a professor talking about mathematical definitions
i smell: Mia because she almost always smells sweet
i crave: donuts...
i search: my heart and pray for God’s guidance
i wonder: if I'll have another niece or nephew and why I'm not taller :)
i regret: wasting time doing trivial things, not taking certain aspects of the Christian life seriously
i love: my family, church, and the beautiful weather right now
i ache: in my throat and not because I'm going to cry
i care: about those that I love
i always: clean things, wake up with my hair looking perfect
i am not: very silly or tall
i believe: that the Bible is the Word of God; that my family loves me more than anyone ever will; that the Lord is sovereign over His creation
i dance: sometimes but I usually have to be taught the moves
i sing: low and it certainly doesn't sound as pretty as some
i cry: when someone has hurt me
i don't always: speak as kindly or compassionately as I should
i fight: with my words
i write: poetry occasionally
i never: wear shoes around the house
i write: because it helps me clear my mind
i listen: to classical music when I'm sad, to country when I'm happy, and hymns anytime
i need: maturity to grow in grace
i can usually be found: in the kitchen doing something or reading
i win: very often
i lose: rarely
i confuse: Bible verse references, betweeness of points and rays
i am happy about: all of the things in my life right now
i imagine: what my life will be like 10 years from now

Ok, so I used some of Jasmine's answers because she words things so beautifully and I love that. Normally I like to do tags but this was a long tag so anyone who wants to do it is... IT!

CQE class

Right now I'm at a CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) class at the University of Houston with my dad. Dad's trying to become a CQE while I'm just here to keep him company and learn a few things. I've always been interested in engineering type of things so this class has got me hooked. I love how everything has structure and unity.
I mostly understood what the professor was talking about last time however, this time he has definitely lost me. Good thing it's dad who will be taking the test rather than me.Can you guess how many questions are on the test? Only 1000. The longest test I ever took was about 50 questions so 1000 seems like a bit much to me. Oh, now the professor is talking about Ratio and Interval Level Data. It seems pretty simple. I would tell you everything else he's talking about but I don't understand it completely yet.

Tagged again

I got tagged again by Jasmine at Joyfully Home!

For this tag, I have to state six things that I've learned this year and then tag six people. I think I'm really going to like this one since it probably won't make me very hungry afterward, like the fall tag. Here we go!

  • I learned that every girl in church is crazy over Jasmine's 21-month old brother, Asher (who isn't? He's the greatest!)
  • I learned that 150 extra visitors at church, after the FIC conference, is a lot of people
  • I learned that Algebra 2 and Geometry aren't as hard as you think
  • I learned a lot about Genesis 1-11 and 1 John; thank you, pastors Voddie and Paul!
  • I learned that taking Mia's (my niece) thumb away from her and putting a band aid on it is a bad idea; she's an avid thumb-sucker.
  • I also learned that hurricanes are really cool to watch except when your electricity is out

Trust me, I learned much more practical things this year but I only had six points to expound on. Lets see, who should I tag?

How about: Aunt Amparo, Anna, Mrs. Rector, Elena, Nicole, and Caro

YOU'RE IT!

In Christ,

Micaela

At last...

Well we have now finished the post-cleaning of my Daddy's suprise party.
Every year seems to have different events that make it impossible for us to truly celebrate his birthday; but this year we were determined to be different. At first it was only going to be a small gathering of his closest friends, but it quickly grew to roughly seventy-five people! We managed to make enough food, salsa, and bought the cakes. My Mom is amazing.
Here are the tomatoes and chiles cooling.

And the beans soaking with a bay leaf.

You'll have to wait for Mica's post for the actual party pictures, I just take it of the food :)

He was completely suprised and very happy with everything! Mission accomplished :)

Now I am going to bed...

Stories told by Sophia

Chris, Nicole's husband, graciously let us have Nicole and the girls over for six whole days! Thank you, Chris! We enjoyed out time together immensely especially Nicole, who was treated to an amateur hair chopping,--I mean-- haircut by Elena. It's always sad to see them go but we had the Naquin girls over so we recovered.
Sophia was in a story-telling mood on Friday so she told me several stories. I had to shorten it ever so slightly otherwise you'd be here for a while.

Attack of the Squirrel

Quite a story, huh?

Hospitality

I am one of "Those" people that poetry is number two on my list of things that compel, uplift, or inspire me. I love reading the words of David, Longfellow, Tennyson, Wordsworth, and--well you get the idea.
So here is a poem that I cherish and will someday put in my hopechest:
Hospitality
Blest be that spot where cheerful guests retire
To pause from toil, and trim their fire;
Blest that abode, where want and painrepair,
And every stranger finds a ready chair:
Blest be those feast with simple plenty crown'd,
Where all the ruddy family around
Laugh at the jest pity or pranks, that never fail,
Or sigh with pity at some mournful tale,
Or press the bashful stranger to his food,
And learn the luxury of doing good.
~Oliver Goldsmith
From Verses of Virtue
I hope that someday the same can be said of my home.

Hymn of the Month....

At my church we focus on a new hymn each month in addition to the other songs we sing on Sunday mornings. It's wonderful because we are able to learn new a lovely hymns that we may not have heard before; so I thought it would be interesting to do something like that on this blog.

Each month there will be a post on the background of a certain hymn: when, by whom, and why it was written. This month will be one of my favorites, Come Thou Fount...
1. Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
2. Sorrowing I shall be in spirit,
Till released from flesh and sin,
Yet from what I do inherit,
Here Thy praises I'll begin;
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
3. Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood;
How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.
4. O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
5. O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.
It was written by Robert Robinson in 1757 when he was twenty-two; those were the original verses which have sadly been revised in recent decades.
Mr. Robinson's father died when he was young and as he grew up, he lead a reckless and fruitless life. However, he heard a sermon by George Whitefield that filled him with the dread of God's wrath, and in response he became a Methodist minister.
Later in life he turned to Unitarianism because he doubted the full divinity of Christ. It was after this that a lady approached him while in a stagecoach, and asked him what he thought of his well-known hymn. He gave this response,
"Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then."
He died on the 9, June 1790.
Although the story of the hymnist is very sad, it is still one of my favorite hymns.
