Be Thou My Vision

Everyone in my family loves to sing and I especially love to sing around the house. Mica and I enjoy learning the harmony to different songs or trying to imitate a certain singer (Think "Maria" from The Sound of Music or Ella Fitgerald, yes I did use the word imitate)
Last year I had taken to singing mostly songs from musicals and the like.
Then I began to consider: if this is something I do for the majority of my day, then ought I to sing more glorifying songs instead of say "Singin in the Rain"?
Not to say that all musical songs are wrong to sing, but if I invest so much time in something then it really ought to be for a greater purpose than simply "filling my time".
All this to say that I have found great satisfaction in learning and singing hymns and some contempory worship songs. I really like the music put out by Sovereign Grace Ministries; and recently I have become attached to In the Valley.
This hymn has served as a sweet reminder to me and a prayer put to music:
Be Thou My Vision
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
~
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
~
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
~
High King of Heaven, my victory won, May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

oh wow, elena. what an awesome way for your family to minister. i'm so encouraged to hear that you're there, serving. i'm sure it must be a challenge, as you said they come from a very different background than you. then i know the Lord gives you the words to say that will touch and encourage their hearts.

oh, i love the song you posted! i especially love the verse, "Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art".

good post, elena!

love,
